Actor Sathyaraj’s daughter and noted nutritionist Divya formally joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Sunday. Known for her expertise in nutrition and wellness, Divya took the political plunge at a ceremony held at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, where she met Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin.Speaking to the media after the event, Divya shared her long-standing aspiration to enter politics. “It has been my desire to take up politics since my college days. I chose the DMK to serve the people, not for posts or positions. Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi) has been my inspiration for a long time,” she said.
When questioned about her political entry while her father, actor Sathyaraj, has abstained from formal politics, Divya clarified, “Only I am interested in taking the plunge, not my father.” She attributed her decision to join the DMK to its secular values, stating, “The DMK is a party for people of all religions, which is why I chose it.”
Sathyaraj, a vocal supporter of the Dravidian movement and admirer of Periyar EV Ramasamy’s principles, has often expressed his views on Dravidian ideals and secularism. A one-time fan of MGR, the veteran actor has been increasingly visible at DMK events, sharing the stage with Stalin and advocating for the Dravidian ideology.
