
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, a new initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity in districts with low yields. Implemented in partnership with state governments, the program will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and below-average credit access. Through a convergence of existing schemes and specialized interventions, the initiative aims to improve agricultural output and financial inclusion for farmers.
Recognizing India’s position as the second-largest fish producer globally, the government is set to introduce an enabling framework for the sustainable harnessing of fisheries within India’s exclusive economic zones. This initiative aims to maximize the potential of the sector while ensuring ecological balance.
With seafood exports already reaching ā¹60,000 crore, the new policies will strengthen the industry, increase exports, and create more livelihood opportunities for those involved in fisheries and aquaculture.
These measures reaffirm the governmentās commitment to advancing both agriculture and fisheries, ensuring long-term growth and sustainability in Indiaās rural economy.
