Heavy Fog Engulfs Chennai, Disrupts Traffic and Daily Routine

Residents of Chennai woke up to an unusually foggy morning on Monday, with thick mist reducing visibility and slowing down traffic across the city. The dense fog, coupled with a drop in temperature, created a winter-like atmosphere, a rare occurrence in the metropolitan city.
Commuters faced delays on major roads due to low visibility. Motorists were seen switching on their headlights even after sunrise to navigate through the mist. “I couldn’t see beyond a few meters on OMR. I had to drive at a much lower speed than usual,” said Karthik R, a software professional from Sholinganallur.
Pedestrians, too, struggled as the fog lingered well into the morning. “It felt like I was walking through the hills. It was beautiful but also made crossing roads difficult,” said Sangeetha M, a college student from Anna Nagar.
The unexpected chill added to the winter feel, with several people seen wearing sweaters and shawls. “This kind of weather is rare for Chennai. It reminded me of my visit to Ooty,” said Rajeshwari K, a resident of T. Nagar.
According to weather experts, the fog was caused by a combination of high humidity and low temperatures overnight.
