The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against former AIADMK minister K.T. Rajenthra Balaji and two other party members, Vijayanallathambi and Mariyappan, in connection with a cash-for-job scam. The case was filed following a recent directive from the Madras High Court. According to the FIR, the alleged fraud took place at Vijayanallathambiās residence in Ramudevenpatti, Vempakottai, Virudhunagar district, between November 2020 and February 2021.
Justice P. Velmurugan of the Madras High Court, on January 6, ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Virudhunagar District Crime Branch to the CBI, expressing dissatisfaction over the delay in obtaining sanction for prosecution. The decision came after the complainant, Ravindran, approached the court, citing a lack of significant progress in the case and seeking a directive for a speedy investigation and charge sheet filing.
Ravindran accused the three individuals of collecting over ā¹30 lakh from job seekers by falsely promising employment in Aavin, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation. Following the High Court’s direction, the CBI will now take over the probe to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
