Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan asserted in the State Assembly that no reservoir could be built across the Cauvery at Mekedatu without Tamil Nadu’s approval.
He stated that Karnataka’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) was rejected by the Central Water Commission and the Union Environment Ministry due to Tamil Nadu’s legal opposition.
The Supreme Court had also ruled that the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) had no jurisdiction over the Mekedatu issue, securing Tamil Nadu’s rights.
Duraimurugan further recalled Tamil Nadu’s legal victory in the Mullaperiyar case, ensuring water storage up to 142 feet.
