“Acting in films alone is not sufficient for politics. True politics is about serving the people,” said Madurai Adheenam, the 293rd Guru Maha Sannidhanam, Srila Sri Harihara Gnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal.Speaking to the press at Kanjanur in Thanjavur district, the Adheenam emphasized that the Tamil Nadu government should ensure equal treatment for all religions in its welfare measures. “The government provides rice and other essentials for Ramzan. Similarly, it should also supply rice and other items for temple festivals and community feasts in Hindu temples. A secular government should not discriminate based on religion when it comes to festivals and public welfare,” he stated.
He also highlighted the significance of the 2028 Mahamaham festival in Kumbakonam, urging the government to start planning and organizing the grand event in advance.
Addressing the current political landscape, the Adheenam noted that anyone can enter politics today, but this should change. “Only those who have worked hard for the people and dedicated themselves to public service should enter politics. Such individuals will genuinely work for the welfare of the people and raise their voices for public issues.”
Referring to actors entering politics, he remarked, “Many actors believe that acting in films alone qualifies them for politics. This is a misconception. Politics does not require cinema; it requires a sincere desire to serve the people.” He clarified that his statement was not aimed at anyone in particular, but rather a general observation about the state of politics today.
