Tamil Nadu’s para-athletes, who shone at the second edition of the Khelo India Para Games, were felicitated by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday. He honored the state’s medal winners by distributing cash incentives totaling ₹1.12 crore to 62 para-athletes who secured 74 medals at the prestigious event.
The initiative, aimed at recognizing and encouraging sporting excellence, was part of the government’s continued efforts to support athletes with disabilities. The felicitation ceremony underscored Tamil Nadu’s commitment to promoting inclusive sports and empowering para-athletes with financial backing.
In a separate event, Udhayanidhi Stalin also handed out cheques and modern sports equipment worth ₹10.90 lakh to six athletes from the Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation. The distributed gear included bicycles and pole vault poles to aid their training and performance. The event was attended by key officials, including Atulya Misra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, J Meghanatha Reddy, Member Secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), Vice President N Ramachandran, and Ashok Sigamani.
Tamil Nadu’s strong showing at the Khelo India Para Games has once again highlighted the state’s growing sports culture, with government initiatives playing a crucial role in nurturing talent across all categories.
