Chennai, Apr 12:
Gold prices in Chennai have hit a record high today (April 12), with the price of 22-carat ornamental gold rising by Rs 200 per sovereign. One sovereign (8 grams) is now being sold at Rs 70,160 – crossing the Rs 70,000 mark for the first time.
On April 11, the gold rate per gram surged by Rs 185, reaching Rs 8,745, and the price per sovereign increased by Rs 1,480 to Rs 69,960. Continuing the upward trend, today’s price jump of Rs 200 has taken the rate to an all-time high.
This sharp increase in gold rates is attributed to global market trends. Just two days ago (April 10), gold was sold at Rs 8,560 per gram and Rs 68,480 per sovereign.
As of today, the price per gram has risen by Rs 25 to Rs 8,770 – setting another record. The soaring prices have triggered concern among jewellery buyers, as the cost of one sovereign has breached the Rs 70,000 mark, an unprecedented figure in the market.
