The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu police to register a case against Forest Minister K. Ponmudy over his recent controversial comments that led to him losing his party post.
Justice N Anand Venkatesh gave a strong warning to the police, saying that if they fail to file an FIR (First Information Report), the court will start contempt proceedings on its own. The judge said, ā€œNow the court has taken up the matter. Even if there is no complaint, you must file a case and begin the investigation.ā€
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 23.
As a result of the controversy, Ponmudy was removed from his party responsibilities.
