Trichy, Apr 23: Members of the AIADMK’s women’s wing staged protests at three locations in Tiruchy on Tuesday, condemning State Minister K Ponmudy for his recent derogatory remarks and demanding his arrest and removal from the cabinet.
The protests took place in Othakadai, Pettavaithalai, and Pullambadi, where AIADMK members carried placards denouncing the minister and the ruling DMK. The protesters alleged that making insulting remarks against women has become a habitual practice for DMK leaders, regardless of their position.
They pointed out that several individuals and institutions, including the Madras High Court, women’s organisations, and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, have condemned Ponmudy’s remarks. Despite the widespread outrage, they criticized Chief Minister M K Stalin for remaining silent on the issue, and noted that no FIR had been filed against the minister.
Former ministers M Pranjothi, S Valarmathi, Sivapathi, and other senior party members participated in the protest, calling for immediate action and accountability from the state government.
