Governor RN Ravi’s Conference with VCs Sparks Fresh Tensions in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi’s decision to host a three-day conference of Vice-Chancellors in Ooty from April 25-27 has triggered fresh political tensions, particularly amid recent Supreme Court observations against Governors delaying assent to Bills.
The event, which closely follows Chief Minister M K Stalin’s meeting with state university VCs on April 16, has raised eyebrows across the political spectrum. Critics argue that the Governor’s move appears to challenge the apex court’s stance, especially since some of the pending Bills concern the appointment of Vice-Chancellors—a power the DMK government has been seeking to regulate.
The ruling DMK and Left parties have condemned the Governor’s action as unconstitutional. They called the conference a “contempt of the Supreme Court,” and warned it could be viewed as a coordinated attempt to erode state authority.
