Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Airport, the tourists shared their traumatic experience. “We were very excited when we left for Kashmir, but we never imagined it would turn into a nightmare,” said one of the travelers. “We feared for our lives. We kept wondering – is this what Kashmir is really like? There was panic and chaos all around.”
The tourists recalled the terrifying moments when the attack unfolded. “It was very scary. We have never experienced anything like this before. We felt helpless. At one point, we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive,” said another returnee, visibly shaken.
The Tamil Nadu government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Stalin, acted promptly after news of the attack broke. A special rescue team was deployed to coordinate with local authorities in Kashmir, and arrangements were made for the safe return of all Tamil Nadu tourists.
“We are thankful to the Chief Minister for his timely intervention. The government arranged for our travel back to Chennai and also took care of our onward journey to places like Madurai,” said a relieved tourist.
Comparing their experience in Kashmir with life back home, many expressed a renewed appreciation for the peace and safety in Tamil Nadu. “We feel much safer in Tamil Nadu. There’s a sense of calm here that we took for granted. This trip made us realize that.”
As they returned home, the tourists were met with comfort and assistance at the airport. State government officials were present to receive them and ensure smooth travel arrangements for those heading to different districts.
The Pahalgam attack has sent shockwaves across the country, and the return of Tamil Nadu’s tourists has highlighted the importance of prompt governmental action during crises.
