Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and formerĀ AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has called on all factions within the AIADMK to come together and form a united front to effectively oppose the ruling DMK government. Speaking recently, OPS emphasized the importance of party unity to strengthen the AIADMK’s position ahead of upcoming elections.OPS stated that the district-level workers and grassroots supporters will be consulted before taking any final decisions on alliances or strategies. He expressed optimism that with collective effort, the party can regain its strength and provide a strong challenge to the DMK in Tamil Nadu politics.
This call for unity comes amid ongoing internal divisions within the AIADMK following OPSās removal from party leadership in 2022. Despite efforts from OPS to reconcile differences, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has so far rejected these moves, asserting that OPS is not fit to rejoin the party leadership. As the 2026 Assembly elections approach, how AIADMK resolves its internal conflicts will be key to its political future and its ability to counter the DMKās dominance.
