At a seminar on ‘One Nation, One Election’ (ONOE) in Tiruvanmiyur, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran likened Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan to the late Tamil Nadu leader M.G. Ramachandran (MGR). Nagendran highlighted the cultural ties between Tamil and Telugu communities, stating, “Just as NTR rose to prominence in Andhra Pradesh and MGR in Tamil Nadu, Pawan Kalyan now arrives as the new MGR.”Nagendran also emphasized the potential economic benefits of the ONOE initiative, suggesting it could save over ā¹12,000 crore and boost the country’s GDP. He countered concerns about one-party dominance by asserting that simultaneous elections can be implemented with fairness and justice.
BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan supported the ONOE proposal, arguing that frequent elections strain the nation’s economy. She also emphasized Tamil Nadu’s spiritual heritage, stating, “This is not Periyar’s land, but the land of Periyazhwar. It’s not just Anna’s land, it’s also Andal’s.”
The event saw significant support for Pawan Kalyan, with over ten welcome banners displayed in Tiruvanmiyur. However, former BJP state president K. Annamalai’s image appeared on only two banners, leading to speculation among his supporters about a possible sidelining during the event’s promotions.
