The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for filing returns. The earlier due date was July 31. It is now extended to September 15. This is for the financial year 2024–25 (assessment year 2025–26).
This extension gives relief to many taxpayers, especially businesses and professionals who asked for more time.
The decision was made by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
Officials said the move will help people file returns properly, without errors.
Experts still advise taxpayers to file early. Delaying could cause last-minute rush or technical issues on the income tax portal.
Those who miss the new deadline may face late fees or penalties.
