Actor Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Thug Life will not release in Karnataka on June 5, as planned for its worldwide launch. This decision comes after the actor chose not to apologise for his earlier statement that “Kannada is born out of Tamil.” The Karnataka High Court had suggested that Mr. Haasan end the issue by apologising. But the actor stood by his statement, saying it came from love and respect, especially for Kannada legend Dr. Rajkumar. Raajkamal Films International, the production company, had requested police protection for the film’s release. However, they now say the film won’t release in Karnataka unless they have a positive discussion with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), which had opposed the film and demanded an apology. The High Court has postponed the case hearing to June 10. The judge reminded the actor’s lawyer that land, water, and language are sensitive matters for people and must be respected. @@@
