The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has warned that hot and uncomfortable weather conditions will persist across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next two days. In its latest bulletin issued on Thursday, the RMC said that several regions are already witnessing above-normal temperatures, with little immediate relief in sight.“Due to prevailing weather conditions, isolated pockets in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are very likely to experience heat and discomfort,” the statement read. The forecast also indicated the possibility of light, isolated rainfall in a few areas, though it is unlikely to bring significant cooling.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai’s Nungambakkam area recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7°C (99.86°F) on Wednesday, after hitting 38.8°C (101.84°F) on Tuesday — marking the third straight day of intense heat in the city. On Thursday, the mercury continued to rise, with at least 11 districts across Tamil Nadu surpassing the 100°F mark.
The scorching weather is expected to affect daily life, particularly in urban areas where humidity and heat combine to increase discomfort. Health officials have urged residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and look out for signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
While the RMC has not issued an official heatwave warning, meteorologists continue to monitor the temperature trends closely. Authorities are advising caution, especially for vulnerable populations like children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
The state government is also expected to issue advisories to schools and public institutions if the extreme weather continues.
