India is witnessing a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases, with the number of active infections climbing to 7,400 as of Saturday, June 15, 2025.
According to official reports, 269 new infections were recorded in the past 24 hours alone, sparking concerns among health authorities and the public alike.
Tragically, nine deaths were reported across the country, including four in Maharashtra, three in Kerala, and one each in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Since January this year, a total of 87 COVID-related deaths have been documented. Officials attribute the recent rise to new sub-variants of the virus, which have caused localized outbreaks in several states.
Kerala leads with the highest number of active cases at over 2,100, followed by Gujarat (1,437), Delhi (672), Maharashtra (613), and Tamil Nadu (232). States such as Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat have also reported noticeable increases.
Health experts are urging the public—particularly senior citizens and individuals with comorbidities—to exercise caution. The Ministry of Health continues to emphasize mask usage, frequent handwashing, social distancing, and timely vaccination, including booster doses.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation with enhanced surveillance measures and are prepared to implement localized containment strategies if required.
