Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran has begun a week-long fast starting June 16, ahead of the Lord Muruga Devotees’ Conference scheduled for June 22 in Madurai. The fast is both a spiritual offering and a symbolic act, aimed at seeking divine blessings for the successful conduct of the event and for the overall welfare of Tamil Nadu.The conference, planned on the auspicious Krithikai day, is expected to draw Muruga devotees from across the state. Nainar said the fast is in line with the Tamil tradition of invoking Lord Muruga’s blessings, who is deeply revered as the guardian deity of Tamil language and culture.
During his announcement, Nagendran expressed several prayers to Lord Muruga. He called for the preservation of Tamil language, culture, and temples, and wished for Tamil Nadu to become prosperous and contribute meaningfully to the dream of a fully developed India by 2047. He also prayed for the safety, dignity, and empowerment of women, and hoped for a society free from drug abuse.
He further wished for social harmony across communities and better protection and upliftment of backward groups. Strengthening rural infrastructure and supporting agriculture were also among the key areas he sought divine guidance for.
Nagendran urged Muruga devotees to spiritually support the initiative. He emphasized that prayer and fasting are sacred practices deeply rooted in Tamil culture, and expressed his belief that Lord Muruga would lead the state toward peace, progress, and unity.
