The Madras High Court has warned that the cases against former minister Ponmudi could be handed over to the CBI if police hesitate to investigate properly.Ponmudi recently made vulgar comments about Hinduism and women, which sparked outrage across Tamil Nadu. Following this, several complaints were filed against him, and a case was taken up in the High Court.
During the hearing, the government informed the court that 112 complaints have been received across the state and investigations are still going on.
The judges questioned why a former minister would speak like this when there are so many other topics to discuss. “A person who held a ministerâs post should speak responsibly,” the court said.
The court warned that if the police do not carry out a proper investigation into Ponmudiâs obscene speech, the case will be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
