London, July 12:  Former England pacer Stuart Broad slammed the Dukes ball manufacturers after controversy erupted during Day two of the second Test. During the first hour of play on Friday, July 11, India captain Shubman Gill wasn’t pleased with the ball and asked for it to be replaced. The umpires used the gauge and found that a replacement was required. This was the second new ball and it survived just 10.4 overs before being changed.
Incidentally, the replacement ball also had to be changed later on in the first session. Broad, who spoke against the Dukes ball on commentary, decided to take to social media to voice his displeasure. The former England pacer said that the ball should be like a fine wicketkeeper, who is barely noticed during the match.
Broad said that the ball has become an issue and is being changed during every innings. The England legend said that the ball should last for 80 overs and not 10.
This is not the first time the Indian team have had an issue with the Dukes ball during the ongoing series. Rishabh Pant was penalised during the first Test for showing dissent at the umpires for not being happy with the ball and Gill criticised it after the Edgbaston Test.
