Vijay slams DMK as a ‘Sorry Model Govt’ at protest rally

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, calling it a “Sorry Model Government” during a protest held at Sivananda Salai in Chennai on Saturday morning.
The demonstration was organized to demand justice for Ajith Kumar, a temple watchman from Thiruppuvanam in Sivaganga district, who died after an alleged assault by the police. Protestors also urged the government to release a white paper on 24 custodial deaths reported over the past four years.
Vijay, wearing a black shirt, joined the protest for the first time, holding a placard that read “We don’t want Sorry; We want Justice.” He echoed this slogan with hundreds of supporters who had gathered.
“Did You Say Sorry to Everyone?” – Vijay’s Hard-Hitting Questions
Addressing the crowd, Vijay said, “Ajith Kumar came from a humble background. The CM said ‘sorry’ to his family — that’s fine. But what about the 24 people who died during police investigations under your rule? Did you say sorry to those families?”
He further demanded equal compensation for all custodial death victims. “You gave relief to Ajith Kumar’s family. Will you offer the same to the others? Please do it,” he urged.
Vijay also questioned the CM’s earlier criticism of CBI involvement in the Sathankulam case, contrasting it with the current decision to hand over Ajith Kumar’s case to the same agency. “Then you said it was an insult to the police. What changed now? Isn’t this also the same CBI — controlled by RSS and BJP?”
“Why Hide Behind the Centre?”
The actor-politician criticized the DMK government for not forming a special investigative team under court supervision as TVK had requested. “Why are you hiding behind the Centre’s authority?” he asked.
He said if every issue must be resolved only through court intervention, the purpose of the elected government and the CM’s role is questionable. “Every time, your answer is just ‘Sorry, sir’. Is that all you’ve got?” he said, sarcastically.
Vijay concluded with a warning: “If you can’t act, we’ll stand with the people and make you act. TVK will continue to fight for justice through democratic protests.”
