EPS sidesteps questions on alliance with TVK

Amid growing political chatter surrounding actor Vijay’s entry into Tamil Nadu politics with his newly launched party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has chosen to maintain a guarded stance, refusing to divulge any specifics about a possible alliance between the two parties.
During an interaction with a daily, EPS was directly asked whether the AIADMK is considering an alliance with TVK, especially in light of recent reports suggesting internal deliberations and political recalibrations ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, the AIADMK leader declined to provide any concrete response, asserting that matters of electoral strategy are confidential and not to be revealed in public.
EPS further evaded questions on a speculative scenario where AIADMK might end its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to align with TVK, reiterating that he would not be drawn into discussing tactical decisions at this stage. “These are strategies for elections, and we cannot disclose them,” he said, adding weight to the mystery surrounding the party’s next political moves.
This deliberate silence has only intensified the speculation within political circles and among the public. Vijay’s TVK, which is yet to formally announce its alliance plans, has generated significant buzz among young voters and first-time electorates. AIADMK’s ambiguous stand has led analysts to believe that backchannel conversations or future adjustments are not off the table.
The AIADMK, which has been facing challenges in reviving its influence post the 2021 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is under pressure to consolidate its support base. An alliance with a popular figure like Vijay, who enjoys widespread fan support and has positioned himself as a clean and reform-minded political entrant, could potentially bring fresh energy to the AIADMK’s campaign machinery.
While the BJP remains an ally of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, the alliance has not been without strains. With local dynamics shifting rapidly, especially after actor Vijay formally launched his political party, parties across the spectrum are recalibrating their positions to maximize electoral gains.
As of now, EPS’s diplomatic refusal to confirm or deny a future partnership with TVK has left the door open for all possibilities—fueling political debates, public curiosity, and intense speculation over what lies ahead in Tamil Nadu’s evolving political theatre.
