A sum of approximately ₹1 crore in cash and gold bangles has been reported stolen from the residence of Venkatachalam, a retired railway chief engineer, located in an apartment complex on Wallace Garden Road in Nungambakkam.
The theft has raised suspicions of an inside job, as investigators found no signs of forced entry.
According to police reports, Venkatachalam discovered the valuables missing from his bureau and promptly filed a complaint with the Thousand Lights police. A case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is underway.
The absence of any visible signs of a break-in at the apartment has led police to suspect that the theft might have been committed by someone with access to the house.
Authorities are currently examining fingerprints found at the scene and are meticulously inquiring about all recent visitors to the railway officer’s home as part of their intensified probe.
