M.K. Muthu, the eldest son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, passed away due to age-related ailments. He was 77.
Born on January 14, 1948, to Karunanidhi and his first wife Padmavathi, Muthu was introduced to the Tamil film industry as the artistic heir of his father. In the 1970s, he acted in a few films including Pookkari, Anaiya Vilakku, Pillaiyo Pillai, and Samayalkaran. Apart from acting, he also showcased his singing talent, lending his own voice in some of his films.
Due to personal differences with his father Karunanidhi, Muthu distanced himself from the family and had been living a quiet life for several years. He passed away today at his residence in Injambakkam, Chennai. His body has been placed for public homage.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid his respects by laying a floral wreath on his brother’s body at the residence.
