In a move to enhance passenger convenience, Chennai Airport will soon introduce an online booking facility for prepaid taxis. Currently, around 300 prepaid taxis operate at the airport, and they are widely preferred by passengers for their regulated fares and government-approved operations.Until now, there has been no option to book these taxis in advance. Passengers arriving at the airport have had to manually register at prepaid taxi counters — located inside the domestic terminal and outside the international terminal — often leading to inconvenience and delays.
To address this issue, the Chennai Airport Prepaid Taxi Union is launching a mobile application titled “Chennai Airport Prepaid Taxi Online Booking.” Through this app, passengers from anywhere in India will be able to book prepaid taxis before arriving at the airport.
After downloading the app, users can generate a QR code by entering details such as date, time, pickup and drop-off points. Fare details will also be displayed. Payments can be made online, and once passengers reach the designated pickup point at the airport, they can show their booking to the staff and board their taxis immediately.
The service will not only help avoid long queues but also ensure that there are no additional charges. The same app can be used by Chennai and suburban residents to book prepaid taxis to reach the airport, with standard one-way fares applied. The online booking facility is expected to be launched soon.
