Actress Teju Ashwini is set to make a significant career shift with her upcoming film, Blackmail. The actress, known for her energetic performances, will star in a serious and layered role, which she describes as a new experience that allowed her to go “beyond usual paradigms.”Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mu. Maran, the thriller is an edge-of-the-seat narrative that also features GV Prakash Kumar in a leading role. The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on August 1.
Teju, who previously worked with GV Prakash Kumar in the popular music video “Patak Patak,” noted that their on-screen pairing in Blackmail is a stark contrast. “It places both of us in a more mature, intense space,” she said, highlighting the film’s gripping plot and technical quality.
She expressed her excitement about working with Mu. Maran, whose previous films like Kannai Nambathey and Iravukku Aayiram Kangal are known for their strong female characters. The opportunity to play a substantial role with emotional depth was a key reason she was drawn to the project.
The film, written and directed by Mu. Maran, is produced by Deivakani Amalraj and presented by Jayakkodi Amalraj of JDS Film Factory. The technical crew includes Sam CS (music), Gokul Benoy (cinematography), and San Lokesh (editing). Other key members include SJ Ram (Art), Rajasekar (Stunts), Baba Bhaskar & Sai Bharathi (Choreography), and lyricists Sam CS, Eknath & Karthik Netha.
