Manchester, July 28: Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan has been added to India’s squad for the fifth Test against England. He replaces Rishabh Pant, who is out with a fractured foot.
Pant got hurt while trying a reverse sweep on Day 1 of the fourth Test. Scans showed a fracture in his right foot. He won’t play again in this series. The BCCI said doctors will keep checking his recovery and wished him a quick return.
Jagadeesan, 28, has done well in domestic cricket. This is his first Test call-up. He joins Dhruv Jurel as a wicketkeeper, since KL Rahul is still not fit to keep wickets.
The final Test starts on July 31 at The Oval in London. With the series level, India will rely on fresh players like Jagadeesan to step up. His strong record in first-class matches could help India stay balanced despite Pant’s absence.
