Macau, July 31: Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has successfully progressed to the second round of the Macau Open Super 300 badminton tournament, securing a victory in his opening men’s singles match.Sen was joined by fellow Indian players Ayush Shetty and Tharun Mannepalli, who also advanced to the second round in the men’s singles category after their respective wins.
In the mixed doubles, the pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto moved into the next round, as did P Krishnamurthy Roy and S Pratheek in the men’s doubles.
However, it was not a clean sweep for the Indian contingent, as several prominent names faced early exits. In men’s singles, HS Prannoy and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran were ousted, while in women’s singles, Unnati Hooda, Anupama Upadhyaya, Sankar Subramanian, Aakarshi Kashyap, Kiran George, Anmol Kharb, and Tasnim Mir bowed out. The mixed doubles also saw the elimination of pairs such as Thandrangini Hema Nagendra Babu and Priya Konjengbam, Ayush Agarwal and Shruti Mishra, and Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde.
Overall, the Macau Open has presented a mixed bag of results for the Indian shuttlers, with some notable advancements and others facing an early end to their tournament run.
