The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced plans to build a new bus terminus near Vivekananda House at Marina Beach. The project, estimated to cost ā¹1 crore, will be funded through contributions from both MLA Local Area Development Funds and the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).Officials said the terminus will be designed to blend in with the historic and scenic surroundings of the Marina. The facility will include a timekeeper room, passenger waiting area, seating arrangements, and a dedicated feeding room for mothers. The tender process is currently in progress, and construction is expected to be completed within four months.
This initiative follows earlier improvements in the area, particularly in 2016, when a nearby park was upgraded to include a bus bay, widened footpaths, and modern bus shelters. The new terminus aims to boost public transport efficiency and ease traffic congestion around the popular Marina stretch.
