The Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Manipur Police and other agencies, carried out a series of joint operations across multiple districts in Manipur last week, from July 29 to August 4.The operations took place in Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal West and Imphal East districts. Based on specific information, the security forces launched coordinated actions to counter insurgent activity in the region.
Security forces recovered 69 weapons, 16 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades and a large quantity of war-like stores, including a modified heavy mortar, radio communication sets, bulletproof gear and live ammunition.
The operations began on July 28 when an active UNLF-P cadre was apprehended by the Army and Imphal East Police during an extortion attempt. He was found with a .32 pistol, three live rounds, and a mobile handset.
On July 29, a search operation in the Nobap forest near Chanbirok in Imphal West led to the recovery of country-made weapons, IEDs, and other explosives.
