Romance at its bestKaathu Vaakkula Oru Kadhal is a love story between Mass Ravi and Lakshmi Priya, who are deeply in love. However, their romance unfolds in the complex, gritty world of North Chennai’s rowdy gangs. What starts as a colorful love story quickly turns into a thrilling tale filled with violent twists.
As the story progresses, numerous rowdies from North Chennai are introduced, leading to a series of murders and conflicts. This reveals a different side of Mass Ravi, while his lover, Lakshmi Priya, searches for him, heartbroken and in pain. The love and anguish in her eyes powerfully convey the film’s emotions.
At one point, Lakshmi Priya is shocked to see Mass Ravi in a different look, resembling a rowdy. The answers to why her gentle lover chose this path of violence are set to be revealed in the second half of the movie.
Mass Ravi, who also directed the film, impresses in his dual role as both director and protagonist. While his acting is a bit over-the-top in some scenes, he delivers a dedicated and emotional performance in many others. His speeches to his friends and the emotions he portrays in the climax are particularly commendable.
Lakshmi Priya captivates with her beautiful smile and emotional acting. Her powerful performance in the climax is truly moving for the audience.
However, the director seems to have scattered the plot in several places. Unnecessary rowdy characters and the late-game turning points disrupt the flow of the story.
The comedy from Aditya Kathir and Thangadurai provides some laughs. Sai Dheena starts as a villain and then tries a new, love-infused style, but it doesn’t quite work for him.
Overall, the film attempts to portray a love story but becomes overly violent against a backdrop of rowdism. The climax and the performances of the main characters, however, are worthy of praise.
