The “Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme,” which will deliver ration goods directly to the homes of senior citizens and people with disabilities, will be launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai on August 12.
According to a press release from the Tamil Nadu government, the plan will benefit 21,70,454 beneficiaries from 16,73,333 family cards. These include 20,42,657 beneficiaries from 15,81,364 family cards for senior citizens over 70 years old, as well as 1,27,797 disabled people from 91,969 family cards.
The scheme will be implemented on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month. To ensure the safe distribution of goods, ration shop vendors will deliver the items in sealed vehicles equipped with electronic weighing scales and e-PoS machines.
The government estimates the program will cost ₹30.16 crore. The plan aims to improve the lives of vulnerable communities and ensure their food security.
