The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has taken a major step to improve passenger convenience by signing a contract to build a skywalk connecting the Phase-I and Phase-II Vadapalani Metro Stations. The agreement was signed in the presence of Thiru. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL. Representing CMRL, Thiru. S. Ashok Kumar (CGM – T & EC) signed the deal, while Thiru. K. G. MohanRaj, Managing Partner of M/s Kousic & Co., signed on behalf of the contractor. Senior officials, including Dr. D. Jebaselwin Gladson (CGM – CP & M) and Tmt. Rekha Prakash (CGM – P&D), were also present at the ceremony.The ₹8.12 crore project (excluding GST) is scheduled to be completed within 120 days. Once operational, the skywalk will provide a direct, fare-controlled link between the two metro phases, allowing passengers to transfer seamlessly without the need for extra ticketing.
Officials say the new walkway will help reduce congestion, save travel time, and ensure a safer, weather-protected passage for commuters. By enhancing inter-line connectivity, the facility is expected to make transfers faster, smoother, and more comfortable for thousands of Chennai Metro passengers each day.
