Dubai, Aug 21: A technical error by the International Cricket Council (ICC) caused a stir among cricket fans on Wednesday when the names of Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were temporarily missing from the updated ODI player rankings.
The surprising omission initially left many puzzled, as both players have retired from Test and T20 formats and continue to play in ODIs. However, the ICC quickly addressed the issue, with a spokesperson telling Wisden, “Some issues in this week’s rankings are being checked.”
Following the rectification of the technical glitch, the rankings were restored to reflect the correct positions of the star players. Rohit Sharma was reinstated at the No. 2 spot, while Virat Kohli secured his place at No. 4 in the ODI rankings.
