Dubai, Aug 22: India’s wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has slipped to third place in the latest ICC ODI bowling rankings, with South Africa’s left-arm spinner Kehsav Maharaj reclaiming the top position. Maharaj secured the number one ranking after his match-winning performance against Australia in the first ODI of their three-match series in Cairns, where he took five wickets for 33 runs, earning the Player of the Match award.The 35-year-old Maharaj had briefly held the top spot in November and December 2023 before being overtaken by Kuldeep Yadav and Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana. Alongside Kuldeep, Ravindra Jadeja remains the only other Indian bowler in the top 10.
West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales also made a significant rise in the ODI bowling rankings, jumping 15 places to 18th after his six-wicket haul against Pakistan in the final match of their series. Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed (up 15 spots to joint-39th) and West Indies off-spinner Roston Chase (up five places to 58th) were other notable movers.
In the men’s ODI batting rankings, Shubman Gill continues to lead with 784 points, while Shreyas Iyer is the only other Indian in the top 10 at sixth position. West Indies captain Shai Hope climbed to ninth after scoring an unbeaten 120 in the final ODI against Pakistan. Other significant movements include Aiden Markram (up four to 21st), Temba Bavuma (up five to 23rd), and Mitchell Marsh (up six to 48th).
In the men’s T20I rankings, India’s Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma retained the top two positions. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav is sixth, and Yashasvi Jaiswal is in 10th. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis moved up nine spots to 12th, while Australians Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell rose to 25th and 30th, respectively.
The T20I bowling rankings saw Australia’s Nathan Ellis (up three to ninth) and Josh Hazlewood (up two to 18th) make notable gains, with South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada rising from 44th to 37th position.
