The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has announced new rules to make it easier and faster to change the name on household electricity connections. The circular said that earlier, the process was delayed because too many documents were being asked from applicants. Now, Form 2 (consent from the previous owner) will not be required.
For cases of sale, property division, or gifting, applicants need to submit just one supporting document. This can be a sale deed, property tax receipt, or a court judgment, along with a letter of consent.
If the name change is due to the death of a senior family member, applicants must provide an inheritance certificate or a recent property tax receipt with an affidavit.
The circular also asked chief engineers to create awareness among the public about the new process, so people can benefit from the simplified system.
