The Tamil Nadu Government has signed fresh Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Hinduja Group and AstraZeneca in London, committing a total investment of ₹5,176 crore in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who is currently on a European Investment Mission to the UK.
Under the MoU, Hinduja Group will establish facilities in electric vehicles, battery technology, and spare parts manufacturing with an investment of ₹5,000 crore, creating over 1,000 job opportunities in the state. AstraZeneca, as part of the third phase of its expansion, has pledged ₹176 crore over the next two years to scale up its Global Innovation Technology Centre (GITC) in Tamil Nadu.
According to an official release, Stalin’s twin tour of Germany and the UK has so far secured ₹13,016 crore in investments and generated 17,813 jobs for the state. During the first leg of his visit in Germany, MoUs were signed with 26 firms, bringing in ₹7,020 crore investments and creating 15,320 jobs across aerospace, defence, railways, and the automotive sector.
Soon after arriving in London on September 3, Stalin oversaw the signing of MoUs with five leading firms following discussions with top executives of Rolls-Royce on their expansion plans in Tamil Nadu.
On the second leg of his UK tour, the Chief Minister held a series of high-level meetings in London that resulted in MoUs with firms across defence and aerospace, shipbuilding intelligence, renewable energy, textile technology and design, and academia. These agreements, involving Lloyds List Intelligence, Wilson Power and Distribution Technologies, Britannia RFID Technologies India, University of Exeter, and Ecole Intuit Lab, are expected to bring in significant investments and generate large-scale employment opportunities.
The MoUs are aimed at leveraging the India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to deepen sectoral collaboration and attract international investors, aligning with the state’s ambitious target of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030.
After the signing ceremonies in London, Stalin posted on X: ““Six strategic wins for Tamil Nadu in London today, powering growth, innovation and future readiness.”
