Chennai, Sept 7:
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has begun the process of reconstituting School Management Committees (SMCs) in government schools after the tenure of the existing committees ended.
The new committees will function for the next two academic years and will include representatives of parents and teachers, along with alumni members as a mandatory component.
School principals have been instructed to meet parents and conduct awareness programmes on the role and importance of SMCs before the new committees are formed.
Schools will identify interested candidates and complete the election process by the end of September, according to the department’s directions.
SMCs play a key role in encouraging community participation in government schools and providing a platform for parents and other stakeholders to participate in discussions relating to school development and functioning.
The reconstitution is expected to provide a fresh set of parent, teacher and alumni representatives for the coming two academic years and strengthen community involvement in school administration.
The Education Department has asked schools to complete the process within the stipulated deadline, with principals tasked with creating awareness among parents and facilitating the selection and election of members.
