Is it right for the government to let paddy go to waste in the rain?” asked Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, criticising the DMK regime for its failure to protect farmers’ produce.Nagendran said that paddy stocked at procurement centres was getting soaked due to rains, leading to heavy losses for farmers who had already struggled with debt and drought. He accused the state government of negligence and lack of planning.
He pointed out that the DMK government had cut down the budget for food storage by nearly 50 percent. According to him, this shows poor governance and disregard for the welfare of farmers.
Nagendran demanded that the government improve storage facilities at paddy procurement centres and take steps to safeguard crops from damage instead of leaving farmers in distress.
