Washington, Sept 20: US President Donald Trump has signed a new order that puts a $100,000 yearly fee on H-1B visa applications. The move is expected to hit Indian workers the hardest, as they are the largest group using this program.US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said companies must now pay $100,000 every year for each H-1B visa. “We want companies to hire and train American graduates instead of bringing workers from outside,” he said.
He explained that the rule is meant to create more jobs for US citizens. “If you are going to train somebody, train one of our graduates. Train Americans. Stop giving away our jobs,” Lutnick added.
President Trump also said the technology sector would welcome the change. “They’re going to be very happy with the new visa fee,” he said.
