Beijing, Sept 22: China has announced a new “K visa” to attract young and talented professionals from around the world. The focus will be on experts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The new visa rules will take effect on October 1, 2025.The decision was approved in August and will change the current regulations on the entry and exit of foreigners. Officials say the K visa will make it easier for highly skilled workers to move to China.
Observers are calling it China’s version of the US H-1B visa. The move comes as many countries are tightening their work visa rules.
Earlier this week, the US introduced a steep annual fee of USD 100,000 for H-1B applications. This created concern among Indian tech workers and IT service companies.
In this context, China’s new K visa is being seen as a countermeasure.
