Kabul, Sept 22: An Afghan defence official said on Sunday that there is no possibility of handing over Bagram air base to the US. His remarks came after former US President Donald Trump said he wanted the base back.Bagram is the largest air base in Afghanistan, located north of Kabul. It was the centre of US military operations during the 20-year war against the Taliban. The US abandoned the base four years ago.
Trump warned of âbad thingsâ if Afghanistan did not return the base to the US. In a post on his Truth Social platform, he said the base was built by America and should be handed back.
Fasihuddin Fitrat, chief of staff of Afghanistanâs ministry of defence, said on Sunday that some people are trying to push for a deal on the base. But he made it clear that such a deal was ânot possible.â
