A low-pressure area has developed over the northeast Bay of Bengal and surrounding regions at around 5:30 AM today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The newly formed system is expected to move west-northwestward toward the western and northwestern parts of the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has issued advisories indicating that the system could bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to coastal and adjoining areas as it progresses.
In addition, meteorologists have noted that a new low-pressure area may form over the central and adjoining northern Bay of Bengal around the 25th of this month. This could potentially influence the weather along the eastern coast, including states such as Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and fishermen and coastal residents are advised to remain cautious of rough seas and strong winds over the next few days. Weather updates and warnings will continue to be issued as the low-pressure system develops and moves across the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD also emphasized that heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds may affect inland districts, potentially causing localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Residents in vulnerable regions are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and follow safety measures.
