Customs officials conducted raids at the homes and properties of Malayalam actors Prithviraj and Dulquer Salmaan over allegations of illegally importing luxury cars from Oman.
The operation, named “Operation Numkur,” took place at around 30 locations across Kerala.
Prithviraj, who is not only an actor but also a producer and director, and Dulquer Salmaan, son of veteran actor Mammootty and a film producer himself, are known for their fondness for high-end foreign cars. Several Malayalam actors reportedly own a variety of luxury vehicles imported from abroad.
According to sources, the central government received intelligence that some individuals were importing luxury vehicles from Oman without following legal procedures. To curb such activities, customs authorities launched nationwide raids under “Operation Numkur,” with Kerala alone witnessing searches at 30 locations, including the residences and properties associated with the actors.
Officials carried out the raids following allegations of tax evasion and illegal import of vehicles. Authorities are currently verifying the details of the high-end cars acquired by the actors. Similar inspections were also conducted at car dealerships and businesses suspected of involvement in such transactions.
The operation follows intelligence reports that luxury cars auctioned at lower rates in Oman were being smuggled into India without paying proper customs duties. These vehicles were allegedly brought to Himachal Pradesh using temporary addresses for registration and then sold at high prices to film stars, businesspersons, and other buyers, resulting in significant tax evasion.
