Pakistan PM Sharif, Army chief hold talks with Trump

US President Donald Trump welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the White House on Thursday. The visit showed improving ties between the two countries. Sharif arrived around 5 pm with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir. Senior US officials received them. The Oval Office meeting was Sharif’s first with a US president. No Pakistani prime minister had met a US president in the Oval Office since Imran Khan in 2019. Talks were expected to cover trade, security, and global issues. For Sharif, it was part of a busy week in the US. He had already joined Trump and leaders of eight Arab and Muslim nations to discuss the Israel-Hamas war.
