Washington, Oct 2: US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in about four weeks. One of the main topics will be soybeans, amid growing trade tensions between the US and China. The trade conflict escalated after the US increased tariffs on Chinese imports to around 145 per cent. China responded with its own tariffs and export controls.
In May, both countries eased some measures. The US reduced most tariffs to about 30 per cent, while keeping certain tariffs linked to fentanyl and reciprocal measures. China also relaxed some trade steps.
Currently, the US tariff on Chinese imports is around 55 per cent. The upcoming talks aim to address these issues.
