BJP MP Anurag Thakur and a team of MPs visited Karur to review the stampede during a political event on September 27 that killed 41 people. They met survivors and witnesses to understand what happened.Thakur wrote a letter yesterday asking Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for a detailed report. He raised four key questions: what caused the stampede, what safety measures were in place, what went wrong, and how such incidents will be prevented in the future.
The MPs criticised the state government for poor management and noted that actor-politician Vijay, who organised the event, was not present during the tragedy.
The Tamil Nadu government has set up a one-member commission led by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate. An FIR has been filed against five people, including TVK leaders Bussy Anand and CTR Nirmal Kumar, and two have been arrested.
