AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has strongly condemned the act of vandalism in which a statue of former Chief Minister and party founder M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) was damaged in Avaniyapuram, Madurai district.
According to reports, unidentified persons damaged the MGR statue located along Thiruparankundram Road late on Sunday night. The incident created tension in the area, and several AIADMK members gathered at the spot in protest. Police from Avaniyapuram station rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to trace the culprits.
Condemning the act, Palaniswami said damaging a statue will not reduce the respect or affection people have for MGR, who continues to live in the hearts of millions. He described the act as cowardly and urged the state government to take immediate and strict action against those responsible.
He also called upon authorities to ensure that such incidents do not recur and demanded better protection for the statues and memorials of great leaders across Tamil Nadu.
