Actor Harish Kalyan’s much-anticipated film Diesel, written and directed by Shanmugam Muthusamy, has cleared censorship formalities with a U/A certificate from the CBFC. The director revealed that the film highlights the operations of the oil mafia, set in a period that concludes in 2014, and is grounded in extensive research to authentically portray the story.The film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Athulyaa Ravi, Vinay Rai, Sai Kumar, Ananya, Karunaas, Ramesh Tilak, Kaali Venkat, Vivek Prasanna, Sachin Kedhekar, Zakir Husain, Thangadurai, KPY Dheena, and Apoorva Singh. The teaser, released in August, begins with Harish Kalyan’s voiceover emphasizing the need to fight fearlessly against financial power to achieve happiness, and moves through high-octane action, romance, and thrilling stunts.
Technically, the film features MS Prabhu and Richard M Nathan as cinematographers, San Lokesh as editor, Scarecrow as production designer, and Stunt Selva and Rajasekhar as action choreographers. Produced by Devarajulu Markandeyan under Third Eye Entertainment and SP Cinemas, with V Kishore Kumar as executive producer, the film has been in the making since 2022.
Set entirely in North Chennai, the director lauded Harish Kalyan for his dedication and rigorous preparation for his first full-fledged action role. Harish expressed excitement about the Diwali release on October 17, noting it will clash with Mari Selvaraj-Dhruv Vikram’s Bison and Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude. He remains optimistic about the film’s success, highlighting the special training he underwent to bring authenticity to his performance.
